"Supporting Children and Adults with Developmental Disabilities and their Families in Sussex County."
Family support is a organized system of services to families with a child or sibling with a developmental disability. Family support services are provided throughout New Jersey and are available through SCARC in Sussex County. Family Support is intended to relieve family stresses and to improve the quality of life of the family in which one member has a disability. Family support services are tailored to meet the specific needs of the family. These services may include companionship services, respite care, or specific activities designed for various age groups of children and adults. "Respite" is a word that often comes to mind when Family Support is discussed, and it is a big part of SCARC's commitment to the family. A trained worker comes into the home to care for the young or adult family member while the rest of the family has some time to itself.
Family support services require that the child or adult with disabilities is eligible for services from the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities. Staff will assist families with the application process for eligibility. SCARC does however, have some limited funding for non-DDD eligible families as well.
Most family support services are provided on an average of 20 hours per month. This allows SCARC to provide the maximum amount of service to the maximum number of families in Sussex County.
The types of family support services provided by SCARC include:
SCARC Family Support Services are provided to more than 350 families throughout Sussex County.
