GROUND BREAKING OF SCARC COMMUNITY CENTER

The architectural rendering of the SCARC Community Center shows the building as completed based on architectural drawings. The front of the building will face the Halsey – Myrtle Road in Hampton Township, and the rear of the building will provide the entrance and parking for persons who come to the building for day programs and other functions. 
 

 

 

 

 

 

SCARC’s GAIL SISCO REACHES 25 YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT
SCARC proudly announces that Gail Sisco of Andover Township has reached her 25th anniversary milestone in employment at SCARC. Gail began her employment at SCARC in 1984 as a residential assistant at the Newton Group Home. She has remained employed at the Newton Group Home ever since. 
 
            Ms. Sisco attributes her long career at SCARC to her enjoyment of working with adults with disabilities living in a group home setting. “I really love the guys, and I love working with other SCARC staff,” says Ms. Sisco. Cathy Bentler, director of community services states, “Gail has been an excellent long term staff, and has contributed very positively to the quality of life of everyone at the Newton Group Home.” 
 
            Richard Lecher, Chief Executive Officer comments that it is an unusual phenomenon that someone would reach a 25th anniversary milestone, although SCARC employs 10 people who have been at SCARC for 20 years or more, and 3 employees at SCARC have been employed more than 25 years. 
 
            Ms. Sisco’s 25th anniversary was celebrated at the SCARC administrative office with a reception in her honor given by fellow employees of the organization. She received the applause of many SCARC staff as well as a 25th anniversary monetary gift

 

SCARC HONORS 25 YEAR EMPLOYEE CATHY BENTLER  

Dr. Richard C. Lecher, chief executive officer of SCARC, Inc. proudly announces that Cathy Bentler has been honored for achieving 25 years of employment with SCARC, Inc. Ms. Bentler of Hampton Township began her employment as a group home residential assistant and has worked in a variety of positions including day program supervisor, supported employment program supervisor and currently director of community services.

Ms. Bentler has experienced the growth of SCARC from the beginnings of her employment in 1983 when SCARC operated 4 group homes to its current status as the largest agency for children and adults with developmental disabilities in Sussex County.

Richard Lecher, Chief Executive Officer of SCARC announces that SCARC’s Chief Financial Officer, Karen Newburgh of Stillwater, has been honored by New Jersey Special Olympics as Coach of the Year. Ms. Newburgh’s award was presented at the 2008 Special Olympics Awards Dinner in Princeton.

            New Jersey Special Olympics is celebrating 40 years of inspiration to thousands of athletes, coaches and volunteers who compete throughout the year in various athletic venues. Formed in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics have become an international sports phenomenon for athletes with developmental disabilities. Over 17,000 children and adults throughout New Jersey participate in 23 sports and more then 160 competitions held each year in New Jersey. Ms. Newburgh has volunteered with SCARC’s swimming program as head coach for the past 18 years.  She was chosen as SCARC’s Volunteer of the Year in 1992, and she has received SCARC’s Presidents Award in 2007 for her recognition as SCARC’s Chief Financial Officer.  SCARC’s Special Olympics swimming program practices at the Sussex County Vocational High School pool each Saturday throughout the year.
