Career Planning

Individuals, who wish to explore career options, improve or develop workplace skills, or work toward personal employment goals, should consider SCARC’s Career Planning services. In order to provide person-centered planning, assessments are used to gather information about each individual. Assessments will determine skills and strengths and consider long and short term goals, interests, and preferences. The input of supporters will be gathered as well.

Once an individual’s needs and goals are determined, a plan is created that will lead to development of necessary skills and to chart a course for success. Especially important in each plan is community-based experiences and opportunities to gain situational awareness of the practical aspects of personal goals.

SCARC staff, trained as Employment Specialists, utilize best practices to nurture and guide individuals on their career paths. Staff are trained to provide training and guidance in a wide variety of areas including:

  • Improving interpersonal skills
  • Interviewing and applications
  • Technology
  • Money skills
  • Travel training

In order to fine tune personal goals and preferences, individuals may participate in activities such as:

  • Volunteering
  • Job Fairs
  • Vocational classes
  • Self-Awareness tests
  • Field Trips

Through knowledge of an individual’s interests and abilities and an awareness of community resources and opportunities, SCARC can assist career-minded individuals with pursuing employment objectives and achieving personal aspirations.
