A wide variety of community inclusion activities allow participants to engage in programs which not only foster their participation and assimilation in the communities in which they live, but also cater to individual interests and abilities.


Individuals may participate in large group activities such as:

  • Swimming
  • Bowling
  • Basketball
  • Dances

Other activities are available to support a broad range of interests and abilities such as:

  • Cooking
  • Bingo
  • Weaving
  • Dining out
  • Plays and cultural events

In addition, SCARC supports individuals participating in Special Olympics and offers Summer Experience, a two week summer program.

Summer Experience

This two-week summer program session is available in June for individuals aged 22 to 25. Each session includes activities that support socialization, skill building, and educational opportunities. Transportation to the SCARC main office must be provided by families. Transportation to all activities is provided by SCARC.

Daily destinations may include:

  • Wallenpaupack boat ride
  • Steamtown National Historic Site
  • Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island
  • Turtleback Zoo
  • Delaware river rafting
  • Tomahawk Lake
  • Liberty Science Center
  • Mountain Creek Water Park

 

  • Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm
  • Point Pleasant/Jenkins Aquarium
  • Movies/FunPlex/Bowling
  • Medieval Times
  • High Point State Park
  • Dorney Park
  • Camelbeach Water Park
  • Laser-Tag

Participants must:

  • Have a diagnosed developmental disability
  • Be able to feed themselves
  • Be free of restrictive medical problems
  • Be free of serious behavior problems
  • Have the physical stamina for an active camp program
  • Have independent toileting skills

Applications are accepted starting in March. Sessions are filled on a first come, first served basis. Funding is provided for this program through the generosity of private donors.
