The SCARC Board of Trustees meets monthly at the SCARC office in Augusta. The SCARC Board is a policy governance board and delegates management responsibilities to Megan MacMullin, president and chief executive officer, who utilizes a staff of approximately 300 staff members in order to carry out the Board’s directives and policies. The SCARC Board of Trustees operates under applicable laws of the State of New Jersey in order to assure that the operation of SCARC is done so with integrity, high ethical standards, and for the purpose of supporting persons with developmental disabilities and their family in Sussex County.
Patti Nugent is our chairperson, and a past member of SCARC’s Human Rights Committee, serving for over 25 years. A special education teacher at Kittatinny Regional High School since 1978, Patti has also developed the Learning At College Experience (LACE) Program, a continuing education program for adults with disabilities, at Sussex County Community College.
Mary Ann St. John is our past-chairperson and current treasurer, and has served on the SCARC Board of Trustees since 2013. She is a local CPA, and lives in Branchville with her family. Her son is served through SCARC’s Harvest Home and Recreation programs.
Darlene Blandina is our secretary, serving on the board since 2014. Darlene lives in Sparta, and is the parent of an individual who receives SCARC day habilitation services. Darlene has vast experience in community activities including the Sparta Junior Women’s Club, various school and educational projects, and activities within Sparta Township. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce.
Phil Motyka has served on the SCARC Board since 2007. He has twice previously served as Chairperson. He is also a Past-Chairperson of the SCARC Foundation Board of Trustees. Phil is president of Vitro Com, a custom manufacturer of glass products for the medical and research industry in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. Phil and his wife, Helene, reside in Frankford Township.
Andy Sharickis our immediate Past-Chairperson and also serves as a member of the ARC of NJ Board of Directors. He is a self-employed, professional engineer who has been on the SCARC Board since 1999. He also served as Chairperson from 2005-2007 and 2017-2019. Andy and his wife, Alice, live in Newton, and they have an adult child with disabilities who receives SCARC services.
David Weed is a Chairperson’s appointment to the Board, and has been involved on the SCARC Board of Trustees since 1997. David lives in a SCARC group home and participates in SCARC recreation, Special Olympics, and self-advocacy programs.
Andrew Jorgensen has served on the board since 1989, prior to being awarded the true mark of distinction by being unanimously elected as an Emeritus board member in 2015.
Michael Tilton has served on the Board since 2000, prior to being awarded the true mark of distinction by being unanimously elected as an Emeritus board member in 2019. He served as Chair of the Board from 2009-2011. He is a retired insurance professional who lives in Sparta. Michael and his wife, Barbara, have been dedicated supporters of SCARC for many years.
Doug White has served on the Board since 1999, prior to being awarded the true mark of distinction by being unanimously elected as an Emeritus board member in 2015.
Jim Drew served on the board from 1981 through 2004, at which time he was awarded the true mark of distinction by being unanimously elected as an Emeritus board member.
Sanford Hollander served on the board from 1992 through 2005, at which time he was awarded the true mark of distinction by being unanimously elected as an Emeritus board member.
Megan is the newly appointed CEO of SCARC, Inc. She was previously the CEO of SCARC Guardianship Services and secretary of the SCARC board of trustees for many years. She is also an attorney in Sussex County and she and her husband Michael live in Ogdensburg.
Janis M. Woersching is Chief Operating Officer of SCARC, Inc. and has served in this capacity since 2004. Previously, Janis served SCARC for eleven years in various supervisory and administrative capacities. Janis and her husband, Jeff, live in Stillwater.
Karen Newburgh is SCARC’s Chief Financial Officer. Karen has been employed by SCARC since 1995 and also serves as Chief Financial Officer for the SCARC Foundation. Karen volunteers as SCARC’s Special Olympics swimming coach, and has been involved in volunteering for Special Olympics since 1990. Karen and her husband, Patrick, live in Stillwater.
