THE SCARC FOUNDATION HOLDS SUCCESSFUL GOLF OUTING TO BENEFIT LOCAL INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

Augusta, NJ (October 16, 2019) – The SCARC Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises funds to provide support to SCARC and SCARC Guardianship Services, is thrilled to announce that its annual golf outing, the Pat Romano Sr. Memorial Golf Classic, was an overwhelming success. Now in its 43rd year, the golf outing was renamed for Pat, a dedicated SCARC supporter and board member who founded the golf outing back in 1977, after his death 17 years ago. Over the last several decades, the funds raised from this event have grown steadily, and this year is no different. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and golfers as well as the hard work of our staff and volunteers, this year’s golf outing raised over $319,000—more than $14,000 more than last year!

Held on a beautiful, sunny day, the September 18th event saw participation from nearly 350 golfers who played on two different courses: Newton Country Club and Farmstead Golf and Country Club. Participants in SCARC’s Harvest Home Explorers program, which provides meaningful volunteer opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities, were excited to hand out goody bags to each golfer. Following a great day on the links, golfers and sponsors enjoyed a cocktail reception, dinner buffet, and awards program at Perona Farms. Attendees also generously participated in a silent auction and raffles, which helped to raise additional funds.

“I’d like to thank the many sponsors of this event, as it is through their generous support that we are able to provide the programs and services that help so many individuals with developmental disabilities thrive in our community,” remarked Chris Hemmer, the Foundation’s chief development officer. “I also greatly appreciate the golf committee, co-chaired by DJ and David Romano of RoNetco Supermarkets, as well as the volunteers and attendees, all of whom selflessly gave of their time and resources to make this outing a tremendous success.”

The Foundation is deeply grateful to all of the event’s sponsors, especially its Titanium Sponsors:

  • Bimbo Bakeries
  • ESM Ferolie
  • Fischer Thompson Beverages/Essentia Water
  • iHeartMedia Tri-State
  • Inserra Supermarkets
  • Klae Construction
  • New Brunswick Saw Service
  • Pepsi
  • RoNetco Supermarkets
  • Service Metal
  • The Hershey Company

After expenses, $239,000 from this event was raised, which will go towards supporting SCARC Inc. and SCARC Guardianship Services. From these proceeds, $50,000 will go to the SCARC Foundation Endowment Fund to ensure the long-term viability of the organizations’ essential supports and services.
